PERMANENT MAKE-UP AFTERCARE
The healed results and longevity of your new cosmetic tattoo will depend greatly on your lifestyle, sun exposure & how you take care of your skin during the healing process and beyond. Every client’s skin responds differently, in healing time & the number of sessions required to achieve your desired PMU results and colour retention. The information below acts only as a guideline to maximize healed results; your results however cannot be guaranteed due to numerous biological & environmental factors that are out of our control.
All questions about Cosmetic Brow Tattoo aftercare are answered & explained in this podcast episode. Save your time on researching by listening to the episode below.
WHAT TO EXPECT
After the procedure, you may experience slight discomfort in the area of your cosmetic tattoo. Clients often describe it as a sensation similar to a sunburn (redness and swelling). Symptoms & swelling will subside within 24 to 48 hours.
During the first week, the tattooed area will initially appear to be darker, bolder in color and more sharply defined than the final result. You can generally expect your fresh cosmetic tattoo to fade by 40-60% of it’s original intensity.
Minimal scabbing or flaking of the skin is normal throughout the first few weeks of the healing period. To avoid loss of pigmentation, DO NOT itch or remove skin as it sheds.
Any adjustments and touch-ups can be made only after the healing period is complete.
During the PMU healing process, please avoid the following for best healed results:
Working out- heavy sweating will cause the pigment from your cosmetic tattoo to be pulled out of your skin.
Vaseline, Neosporin and any other petroleum based products.
Application of makeup on the tattooed area for 2 weeks.
Direct water on the tattoo and the use of cleansers (except lip blush), soaps and heavy creams. Wash around the areas using a cleaning cloth or oil-free makeup wipe.
Activities that will cause sweating for 10 days.
Swimming pools, hot tubs or other bodies of water for 14 days.
Exposure to the sun and tanning beds can cause fading and discoloration of the pigment. Once completely healed, always apply sunscreen (30 SPF or greater) on the treated area.
Laser light therapy, as it can darken/lighten or distort the pigment.
Exfoliation products, retinol acids or AHA’s on the area for 30 days after the appointment to avoid premature fading.
Massages, facials or intensive skin treatments.

CARING FOR YOUR NEW TATTOO:
LIP BLUSH (HEALING TIME 7-10 DAYS)
The color of your lip tattoo will appear vibrant for the first few days until your lips start to shed, after shedding the pigment will temporarily recede into the lip to emerge at approximately 40-60% of the original intensity 4-6 weeks after tattooing.
WHAT TO EXPECT Day 1-5 Lips will experience moderate swelling, flaking and sometimes bruising. The bruising and swelling usually subsides after 24 hours- apply a cold compress to reduce swelling for up to 15 minutes at a time. Avoid spicy foods and remember to keep lips hydrated with aftercare balm at all times!
Day 4-7 Expect your lips to start shedding during this period. Remember not to pick for best healed results!
Day 7-10 Routinely spread the provided aftercare balm to moisturize lips.
POST HEALING
- Lip blush tattoos typically last 1-3 years
- To protect your new lip blush cosmetic tattoo, use lip balm or gloss with SPF to protect the lip color from fading with sun exposure & tanning
EYELINER & LASH ENHANCEMENT (HEALING TIME 7-10 DAYS)
WHAT TO EXPECT Day 1-5 You will be provided with an aftercare kit, including distilled water wipes, a barrier ointment and sterile cotton swabs. Gently wipe your eyeliner or lash enhancement tattoo with the provided distilled water wipes 4 hours after your appointment. Also use the wipes on your eyes and apply a light coat of the barrier ointment with a cotton swab before you go to bed and when you wake up.
Eyes will experience moderate swelling, flaking at lash line and sometimes bruising. The bruising and swelling usually subsides after 24 hours- apply a cold compress to reduce swelling for up to 15 minutes at a time. Avoid rubbing eyes and eye make-up/creams.
Day 4-10 Expect your tattooed area to start shedding during this period. Maintain morning and night time routines. Remember not to rub or pick for best healed results!
POST HEALING
Lash enhancement & Eyeliner cosmetic tattoos typically last 1-3 years depending on skin type and UV exposure
MICROBLADING, POWDER, NANO & COMBO BROWS (HEALING TIME 1-2 WEEKS)
Please note that most clients require at least two sessions for ideal results. The 1st session is to build shape and gain symmetry; the 2nd session is to perfect the brows and add density. Powder & Nano brows tend to heal faster than combo or microbladed brows- with better retention and minimal bleeding/scabbing. Brows will appear bolder & darker in colour until they have shed and the appearance of pigment in the skin can vary as the skin continues to heal over the next 6-8 weeks after tattoo. True healed results will be visible 6-8 weeks after your cosmetic tattoo procedure.
Day 1 You will be provided with an aftercare kit, including distilled water wipes, a barrier ointment and sterile cotton swabs. Gently wipe your eyebrow tattoo with the provided distilled water wipes 4 hours after your appointment. Also use the wipes on your brows before you go to bed and apply a light coat of the barrier ointment with a cotton swab.
Day 2-4 Pat your brows 2 to 3 times a day with a cotton pad with lukewarm water and apply a thin layer of the provided ointment once in the morning and once at night.
Day 5-14 Pat your brows with a cotton pad with lukewarm water 2 to 3 times a day and apply a light layer of the provided ointment. For best healed results, do not pick off the scabs as they shed- let them shed naturally.
POST HEALING
Brow tattoos normally last 1 to 3 years depending on skin type, sun exposure, lifestyle and aftercare. Yearly touch-ups with Elevate Lash Lounge Inc are recommended to maintain your results. Do not do laser your brow area (IPL). Some lasers may change the color of the ink. Additional eyebrow makeup application may still be required post tattoo to achieve your desired look.
